Getting Ready For Your New Vinyl Floors

We’ll Floor U is here to help you through every step of the vinyl flooring buying process, from selecting your flooring style, to professional on-site measurement, to removal of your old flooring, and finally a skilled installation. What should you expect from your installation? We’ve laid out the steps in our vinyl installation guide.

Before Installation Day

Want a problem-free installation? Follow this pre-installation checklist to make sure things go smoothly!

  • Clarify with our installers whether you’d like us to remove your existing flooring. It may be necessary before we install your new floors, so if we don’t do it, someone else may have to!
  • We are able to help you move your furniture, but be sure to handle any smaller, fragile items before we arrive, including wall hangings & picture frames, the contents of closets and drawers, and anything you’re particularly concerned about. Larger, unusual items such as pianos, grandfather clocks, etc. should be brought to our attention prior to installation day.
  • We’ll measure your door clearances ahead of time and let you know whether we recommend shaving or cutting your existing doors down before or after vinyl is installed.
  • Paint first! If you plan to paint a room and are also having new flooring installed, you’ll eliminate the possibility of dripping paint on your new vinyl if you wait to install your floors after the paint has dried.

It’s also a good idea to check with us directly to find out if there are other actions we recommend before installation. Just call a member of our friendly sales staff.

What to Expect on Installation Day

Be Home on Installation Day.

You or another adult member of your household should be prepared to stay at home the day of installation and be available in case the installation crew has questions.

Safety First!

Your installers will use a variety of tools and techniques that can make the work area hazardous. Please make sure that your children and pets are kept out of the work area on installation day.

Do a Walk-Through and Ask Questions.

We recommend that, prior to the completion of the installation, you walk through the job with the lead installer. This will give you the opportunity to ask questions and be clear on any final details.

What to do After Installation Day

Patience & Protection.

Don’t walk on your floors immediately after they’ve been installed – give them at least 24 full hours to settle, especially if the vinyl was adhered to the floor. Keep temperature & humidity as consistent as possible during this time. You may also experience some dust & odors post-installation, which you can reduce with ventilation by opening windows & running fans.

After this time has passed you can replace your furniture & appliances. Do so by lifting, not dragging, the items into place.
